Scholarships in Italy for Indian Students: What You Need to Know

Are you planning to study in Europe but worried about tuition fees and living expenses?

Italy offers several scholarship and financial-support opportunities that can make public university education more accessible to eligible international students.

Regional right-to-study scholarship programmes are among the important funding options available to eligible university students.

Depending on the region and the applicable scholarship scheme, benefits may include:

• Financial grants
• Student accommodation or housing support
• Subsidised or free meals
• Tuition fee reductions or exemptions
• Eligibility can depend on the student's household financial circumstances, academic progress and supporting documentation.

Some Italian universities provide merit-based scholarships, tuition reductions or other funding opportunities for international applicants.

Requirements and benefits vary by institution.

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) offers scholarships under specific annual calls.

Eligible nationalities, degree levels, funding amounts and application deadlines are determined by the relevant scholarship announcement.

Depending on the programme, students may need academic certificates, identity documents, household income evidence, family composition certificates and asset-related documentation.

Some documents may require translation, legalisation or other formal verification.

Studying in Italy can become significantly more affordable with scholarships and tuition support. However, free tuition, accommodation and living allowances are not automatically guaranteed to every applicant.

Students must satisfy the applicable eligibility requirements and complete the procedures within the prescribed deadlines.
